Dirty Dancing Meets Bollywood
Last night over a plate of Velveeta and chicken hotdogs, (come on, it was one of those nights where you raid the kitchen for whatever is left over and try to make a meal out of it!), MIM and I watched an Indian movie I rented from the library titled Holiday. It was the very first time I’d seen Bollywood blatantly rip off Hollywood. I’ve been warned by MIM that this is not a rare occurrence, but my god, I was shocked! Two reasons, 1), the movie copied most of the dance moves and basically the same exact plot from the very well known Hollywood version, and 2), they did a very, very bad job at it! Ugh. If you’re going to copy an amazing movie that won over Hollywood audiences for years and years, many of the scenes being iconic, why not make it just as good? Why not at least…try??? What a shame! Another shame? The movie had no subtitles. Minus 2 for MDG.

Hi! I'm MDG.
I am an American woman in love with an Indian man. I moved to Bangalore, India July 25th, 2010, and am happy to be sharing my experiences with you!
Please don't hesitate to comment or contact me directly. I love both!

I nominated you for a blog award…head to my blog to get the details
LOVE YOU!!!
I love bollywood movies even with no subtitles I try to follow along with them to understand. I love Dirty dancing but have not been able to watch it lately.
I remember the first time I saw an Indian movie that was a rip-off. It was the complete plot of The Usual Suspects and just like you said, it was SO terribly done.
lol. MIM says many Indians don’t get to see or have knowledge about Holywood films so that is the reason for the remakes. I asked in return, “well why do they have to be such bad remakes?” Doesn’t seem fair, does it?
I watch Hollywood movies. But I think Bollywood movies are also good. I wonder why we copy movies from Hollywood when we’ve such a good industry here. We’ve so many good movies out there. My favorite actor is SRK. He is the king Khan. There is no one like him even in the Hollywood
SRK is my favorite too…of course! I loved OM Shanti OM. How about you?
Yes. I like it. But I like DDLJ more.
I went to see “My Name is Khan” last night. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT see this film. It might be good by Bollywood standards (I don’t really know what they are) but by America standards its jumbled, unbelievable and confusing. It’s “Forest Gump” with Asberger’s on crack and acid at the same time…
Jubeee, COMPLETELY AGREE!!! Horrible movie!! So disappointed
bollywood movies are nice and cheeky, that is all i have to say *;’
